Brazilian Rainbow Boa

Round bodied terrestrial boa.

Soft skin with brilliance iridescence.

These snakes range from 4 to 6 feet in length.

From South America in the Amazon basin.

Found in humid woodland forest and can sometimes be found in open savannahs.

In the wild they eat rodents and some lizards although in captivity they will eat mice and rats.

Sexual maturity is reached in 2.5 – 4 years.

Males will breed at 4 feet while females will breed at 4.5 feet.

Gestation lasts for 5 months.

They will have live litters of 2 – 35 (12 to 25 is typical ).

Brazilizn’s will live up to 20 years in captivity.

Females seem to eat more and grow larger than males.

They get the iridescent sheen on their skin from microscopic ridges on their scales which refract light like prisms.
